Abstract

There is a rich history of research on effective field theories (EFTs) of scalar fields, and recent development shows that several such theories can be entirely fixed by minimal assumptions including the soft behavior of the amplitudes. By treating the soft behavior as a consequence of the Ward identity of the shift symmetry, we are able to realize this "soft bootstrap" idea by constructing the Lagrangian of the nonlinear sigma model. This approach enables us to study new soft theorems of scalar EFTs, and take a step further toward understanding the underlying structures of the mysterious "extended theories" first discovered in the amplitude program. |
