Abstract

Axion monodromy is motivated by large field inflation. In this scenario, the discrete shift symmetry of axion-like particles is broken spontaneously by couplings such as to 4-forms thus the field can drive inflation along a super-Planckian excursion with little radiative corrections. Monodromies are common phenomena in string compactifications, although not directly acting as the inflaton, we find interestingly a possible evidence for the existence of an axion-like particle with a monodromy potential. |
