In the field of quantum thermalization people try to answer “Does an isolated quantum many-body system equilibrate?”. This is a fundamental question related to the foundation of quantum statistical mechanics and had been asked a long time ago right after the establishment of quantum mechanics. Due to the development of cold atom physics, there have been a great deal of renewed interest in this fundamental issue. I first present an overview of recent developments in quantum thermalization with emphasis on typicality and eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH). Afterwards I shall present our recent work, the proof of quantum H-theroem, which follows von Neumann’s work in 1929. With our result and quantum ergodic theorem proved in 2008 by Reimann, it is clear that quantum statistical mechanics can be established without any postulate, such as the postulate of the equal a priori probability. |
