Topological insulators and superconductors in weakly-interacting electronic systems have attracted lots of attention, owing to e.g. their exotic boundary states. On the other hand, strong correlations are crucial in a bosonic system to realize similar gapped phases. Here we discuss the general physical properties of these bosonic topological insulators, which support gapless boundary excitations protected by symmetry. Prototype many-body wavefunctions are constructed for these phases, and the quantum phase transitions between them are also discussed. We'll reveal a hierarchical structure unifying these phases, which naturally relates bosonic/fermionic topological insulators of different spatial dimensions. |
