Abstract

Disk-shapped colloids are the least studied comparing to spheres and rods. This talk will present novel ways to fabricate icrodisks of uniform size and mophorlogy from phase changing materials (wax), or nano-platelets of identical thickness via exfoliation of crystals of layered compounds. I will present the self-assembly of these microdisks. Particularly, I will present our recent discovery of the smectic phase of disks. |
