Prof. Gang Su is currently a Professor and Deputy Director at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ITP-CAS). He received his Ph.D. degree from Lanzhou University, China, in 1991. Following a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), he joined UCAS as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Full Professor in 1997. Between 1993 and 1999, Prof. Su held prestigious research fellowships at institutions worldwide: he served as a CEEC Research Fellow at State University of New York, USA; an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at the University of Cologne, Germany; and a JSPS Research Fellow at Tokyo University of Science, Japan. From 2001 to 2008, he took on successive academic leadership roles at UCAS, including Executive Dean of the College of Physical Sciences, Assistant President, Provost, and Vice President. During 2021–2024, he served as Director-General of the Bureau of Frontier Sciences and Education, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Since September 2024, he has held the position of Deputy Director at ITP-CAS.
Prof. Su’s primary research interests lie in condensed matter physics, statistical physics, and computational physics, with a particular focus on quantum many-body systems, quantum magnetism, spintronics, superconductivity, supersolidity, exotic statistical physics, computational materials physics, various numerical renormalization group methods (e.g., DMRG, TMRG, TRG, LTRG, ODTNS), and quantum intelligent computing. He has authored over 340 papers and book chapters published in peer-reviewed journals and academic books. Since 1993, his research has been continuously supported by major funding bodies including the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST), and CAS. His academic contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, such as the National Natural Science Award of China, Top 10 Scientific Advances in China, the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education of China, the CAIA Award, the Outstanding Referee Award from the American Physical Society (APS), and the Excellent Supervisor Award of CAS, etc.
