He had been the chairman of the Academic Committee of the Institute of Theoretical Physics; chairman of the Board of Directors of the Society of High Energy Physics of China; member of Executive Council of the Chinese Physical Society; member of Commission on Particles and Fields of IUPAP.
Prof. Dai has long been engaged in the research of quantum field theory and particle physics theory. He has published over 120 research papers in important international and domestic physics journals and a monograph book entitled “Gauge Theory for Interactions”. From 1963 to 1964, he studied the Regge poles of the singular potential and the non-local potential, and pointed out that the scattering amplitudes have different high energy asymptotic behavior compared to ordinary theories because of different distribution of Regge poles under the singular potential. He joined the Beijing Elementary Particle Research Group for the Straton Model from 1965 to 1966. He contributed to the calculation method and analysis of some physical processes in the Straton Model and also explored the properties of the hadronic wave functions and the interaction of stratons in that model. In 1976 he, collaborating with others, studied electromagnetic form factors of fermions in the non-Abelian gauge theory, obtained their high energy behavior up to three loops, and pointed out the exponentiation of the asymptotic behavior of the form factors. Since 1990, he has made contributions to the calculation method for the properties of the bound state Goldstone boson; to the neutrino oscillation, and to the studies of heavy hadrons containing a single heavy quark, including those with high angular momentums, via the Bethe-Salpeter wave functions and the QCD sum rules. The last respect of researches has been continued by him to recent time. As one of the key researchers in the Straton Model, he got the State Natural Science Award (second-class) in 1982.
