The Institute of Theoretical Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ITP-CAS) (http://english.itp.cas.cn) seeks to fill multiple research faculty positions at the levels of tenure-track associate professors and fixed-term (3 to 5 years) research associates in 2019. Research areas include but not limited to: 1) Theoretical particle physics and nuclear physics, 2) Quantum field theory and superstring theory, 3) Gravitational theory, astrophysics and cosmology, 4) Statistical physics, theoretical biophysics and bioinformatics, 5) Condensed matter theory, 6) Quantum physics, quantum information and interaction between light and matter, and 7) New areas of theoretical physics or related interdisciplinary fields. Excellent young scientists working on condensed matter theory, new areas of theoretical physics or related interdisciplinary fields are particularly encouraged to apply.

The applicants can apply for the following positions:

(1)    Tenure-track associate professors, POSITION A

The applicant should be under 40 years old and have held a full-time research position in a well-known overseas university or research institute for more than 36 months after receiving his/her PhD degree. When submitting the applications, the applicant should have been working less than one year with or have not taken a full time position in the Mainland of China.

(2)    Tenure-track associate professors, POSITION  B

When submitting the applications, the applicant should have received his/her PhD degree within 5 years and have a research or working experience for three or more years in overseas and internationally recognized universities or research institutions.

(3)    Fixed-term (3 to 5 years) research associates

The applicant must have at least two years’ research experience after obtaining his/her PhD degree and must be under 40 years old.

A qualified applicant must have established an outstanding academic record demonstrating that he/she will have the ability of acting as a group leader to conduct independent and innovative research activities at the forefront of research in theoretical physics. The following materials are required: 1) Cover letter, 2) Curriculum vitae, 3) A list of publications together with citations of each paper, 4) Research statement, 5) Research interests and future plan, 6) Three to five representative publications, and 7) At least three letters of recommendation (three letters from overseas scientists are required for applications to the “Thousand Talents Plan” for Young Professionals) sent directly by references.
