  • Abstract

New ternary cluster mode in binary fission is suggested. This abnormal binary decay is characterized by a much lower total kinetic energy, a much higher excitation energy of heavy fission fragment and, thus, a larger neutron multiplicity. Employing this mode, one can describe the 8-11 neutron evaporation channels for Ba + Mo and Ce + Zr pairs in spontaneous fission of 252Cf. The influence of 𝛼-clustering of heavy fragment in the scission Cd + Te configuration on the mass and total kinetic energy distributions of the fragments of spontaneous fission of 258Fm is studied. The origin of the total kinetic energy distribution modes is revealed.
