  • Abstract

The Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) has seen rapid development in both theoretical and phenomenological aspects in recent years. This report will provide a brief introduction to the construction of a complete and independent operator basis for SMEFT using the Young Tensor method and its physical applications: specifically, the impact of dimension-8 operators on diboson production processes at hadron colliders. Due to the suppression of some dimension-6 interference contributions in the high-energy limit, the interference terms from dimension-8 operators and the squared terms from dimension-6 operators become the leading contributions to diboson production processes at the same order. We systematically and quantitatively study the relative size of the dimension-8 interference terms compared to the dimension-6 squared terms and identify a novel cancellation effect in the dimension-8 interference terms.
