Verifying quantum aspects of gravitational fields by quantum probes

12/27 2023 Seminar
  • Title Verifying quantum aspects of gravitational fields by quantum probes
  • Speaker Lin-Qing Chen (ITP/ETH)
  • Date 15:00 Dec. 27, 2023
  • Venue 6620
  • Abstract

Recent progress in table-top experiments offers the prospect to show for the first time that gravity is not compatible with a classical description. In order to analyse such experiments, I will introduce a theoretical framework based on quantum field formulation of linearised gravity in the field basis. I will then describe protocols which involve gravitational sources in a delocalised quantum state, and discuss the physical effects through which different aspects of quantum features of gravity could be potentially tested.

    Bio:

Lin-Qing Chen (陈琳青) is a postdoc researcher at Quantum Information group, Institute for Theoretical Physics, ETH. She is currently working at the interface between quantum physics and quantum gravity, as part of the QISS Consortium (Quantum Information Structure of Spacetime). She has a background in perturbative and non-perturbative quantum gravity, as well as black hole physics. After finishing Ph.D. at Perimeter Institute, she had been working in OIST and ULB as postdoc researcher. In March 2024, she will move to IQOQI Vienna to start an independent fellowship.
