  • Abstract

As a basic state of matters, the liquid is ubiquitous on our planet and its structure is of crucial importance in nature and technology but difficult to characterize theoretically and experimentally. The structuring of liquids as a function of thermodynamic conditions can lead to anomalous yet puzzling behaviours of the liquid states, which is essential for many physical, biological, chemical, geological, and industrial processes. In this talk, I will take silica glass, supercooled water, and protein hydration water as three examples to show the emergence of structural orderings in these systems, their connections, and the effects on the unique behaviours of these fundamental fluids.
