The 1/2-BPS D-branes have played important roles in the development of string theory.  In this sense, it would be worthwhile to study them systematically from a formal point of view.  We focus on D-branes in AdS_5 x S^5 and AdS_4 x CP^3 backgrounds and obtain primitive data for the possible 1/2-BPS D-branes in these backgrounds via the covariant open superstring description.  Based on the data, we investigate which configuration of a given static D-brane is really 1/2-BPS in the AdS_5 x S^5 case.  By taking 1/2-BPS D3-brane as a representative, we explore the field theory and supersymmetry structure on its worldvolume.
