Theoretical Study on Dark Matter

Source Date of Publication:Feb 24,2011
The research group at ITP showed that the resonant production of dark matter can lead to the required large boost factor with the relic density correctly reproduced. For the cases of physical/unphysical poles there exists enough parameter space to account for the data. The ITP group has proposed a model for dark matter in a type of left-right symmetric model with a gauge singlet, in which the stability of the dark matter particle is guaranteed by the symmetries of parity and charge-conjugation which are only broken spontaneously. Taking into account the constraints from the relic density, the prediction for the cross section of the dark matter elastic scattering off nucleus is made which can reach the current upper limit from the CDMS experiment. By adding to the model a tiny charge-conjugation violating term the model can allow for dark matter decay dominantly into leptons, which explains the excesses observed by the recent experiments. The model with decaying dark matter can give testable predictions for the cosmic ray neutrinos and gamma rays.
